Since we’ve been stuck at home due to the pandemic, I’ve decided to put together a day in the life article to showcase what my day looks like during these times. My schedule is drastically different due to the changes we’ve recently had in our lives, as it is for many others.I wanted to put together this article to write about the pandemic through a younger viewpoint, to illustrate how teens are dealing with this time.
I usually wake up at about 9:30. I don’t really have much that’s going on, especially in the mornings. I had summer school at 8 am earlier in the summer, however I finished the course and am now free to get up at whatever time I please.
Typically, I stay in bed for at least half an hour to check social media and to update myself on the news. From there, I get up, brush my teeth, and eat breakfast.
Most days, I eat breakfast at about 10:30, though this may vary depending on how late I went to bed the night before.
My breakfast is my most predictable meal. Unless my mom made waffles or blini (a Russian form of pancakes) I eat a little bit of oatmeal and a chocolate pastry. After I finish my breakfast, I usually relax for a little bit.
11:30 AM-12:30 PM
Somewhere within this time frame, I take my dog out for a walk. This walk usually lasts about 20 minutes, though it may vary depending on a few different variables. From time to time, while I walk my dog during this time, one of my friends from dance who lives in my neighborhood goes for a bike ride. Should this happen, I usually stay out for a little bit longer to have a chance to catch up.
The time may also change if I have an internship meeting during this time.
At about 1 am, I usually start working on my summer internship. I typically work until it’s time to eat lunch, which can be at a very unpredictable time. After lunch, I usually either continue working on my internship or watch a little bit of TV. In fact, my mom and I just finished watching a show on Netflix called Dynasty. Most days, we watched a couple episodes after lunch.
On some days, while we watch a show, I might do a little bit of work on my internship, especially if I have a presentation I need to do. It’s possible for me to also write a blog post during this time, in case I’m a little bit behind. I can be pretty good at multitasking, especially if I don’t have to listen and read at the same time. Listening and typing is fairly easy for me, and if I feel like it’s too difficult to focus, I choose one or the other.
After I finish watching TV, I return to my room to work more on my internship.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays I almost always have a meeting for my internship, where I either have to present a presentation, listen to a lecture, or both. If it isn’t a Tuesday or Thursday, I still usually use this time to do some work. If not, I take a little bit of time to relax or even take a nap.
6 PM-8 PM
Sometime during this time frame, my family will eat dinner together. On some days, I leave the house for dinner to meet up with some friends. To hang out, we form a car circle. We park the ends of our cars at least 6 ft away from each other and all of us who can drive stay in our cars while those of us who can’t bring chairs to set up to sit in.
No matter what I do for dinner, it’s usually a fairly social event for me, if it’s talking with my family or talking to my friends.
Although this is not so much the case anymore as my mom and I have finished watching Dynasty, after dinner, we would continue to watch episodes until midnight. At midnight, I take a shower. After my shower, I either write an article for this blog, talk with friends, or spend a little time on my phone. Most nights, I end up going to bed somewhere between 1 and 2 AM.
