A Beginner’s Guide to Lily

By Lily

Hello everyone! I’m Lily and thank you for taking the time to read this! I hope this article can give you a sneak peak into my life so you can get to know me better and understand my point of view when I write my articles. Elena and I are both very excited for the future of this blog so stay tuned! I’m a very bubbly and outspoken individual and I hope this article will help you better understand me!

I’ve lived in the same place my whole life and as a result I’ve grown to love my home and community. My only sibling is my twin sister and we grew up close, although we are polar opposites. I have a small but caring family who I love dearly. I’m a social butterfly, and as a result have many friends who have shaped me into who I am today. I also had the privilege of adopting two cats when I was 7 years old who I treasure dearly. My mother majored in theater but works two jobs writing, testing, and fixing software. My father was a stay at home dad in my early years, but later returned to school and currently works as a chef.

I am approaching my Junior year of highschool in the fall and have a schedule full of AP and music classes. I’m very excited but nervous for the difficult school year approaching, however I have always been a very academically driven ‘A’ student my whole life, leading me to be prepared to take on challenges. I’ve always enjoyed pushing myself to take higher level classes and take pride in my school work.

I was an optimistic and energetic child, to an annoying degree. I wanted to try everything in my early years and as a result tried most sports available, although I eventually had to cut down my athletics to just gymnastics. My gym was my entire  life throughout elementary and middle school, and acted as a second home and family for me. Gymnastics was the biggest part of my life for as long as I remember and I plan to write many articles on it. Unfortunately due to a multitude of reasons I had to quit in December of my freshmen year, I still miss it everyday. I plan to write many more articles on all the ups and downs of my gymnastics career so if that interests you be on the lookout!

Another huge piece of my life is music. As I mentioned before, I have the spirit of a person who wants to try everything which led me into trying various instruments and other music endeavors. Making music has been one of my favorite things to do my whole life, and my passions have been present from a young age as a singer. I took up theater and acted in many local musicals. I began playing instruments in 3rd grade, starting with the String Bass and joined my school orchestra the next year. I fell in love with music so much that the next year in 5th grade, I began playing the flute in the school band, and for christmas my parents bought me a keyboard so I could learn the piano. In 8th grade my band teacher introduced me to the bass guitar in our jazz band and I took up playing that, around that time I also bought myself a ukulele which I adore playing every spare moment. I have also been active in my school’s choir since 5th grade and in 8th grade also joined the show choir which is one of my favorite activities. Later this month I will be posting an article on how to navigate being involved as a music student in highschool, so stay on the lookout if you would like to know more!

I find a lot of joy in volunteering and as a result have strived to do that throughout my life. In middle school I was part of a club called builders club, in which I volunteered for various organizations and took part in a lot of projects to help people. I enjoy volunteering at my local soup kitchen along with other places. I also notably did a volunteer program at my local children’s zoo in which I volunteered to take care of animals and children for four years since 7th grade. It was one of my favorite programs to be a part of for many years but I decided to leave in my first year of high school due to some problems within the program. I love helping people and see that as a big part of my future.

I also went to the same summer camp from a young age and that was my refuge and my favorite place to be. I have been going there for 7 years now and currently work there as a youth volunteer working with the campers to make their experience better and partaking in various activities and leading groups.

Another huge part of my life is debate. I joined my school’s debate team my freshmen year as a result of my academic motivation. Although my debate career started out rough, I met some of the most amazing people through it and enjoy it very much. I started out in policy debate and had some success there, but in sophomore year, I had to switch to LD debate, which I also enjoy and have had some success in as well. Debate has taught me so much, and I’m very excited for my future growth in debate.

My Future

With college approaching, we’re forced to figure out what we want to do with our futures. My whole life I’ve struggled with what to do, but the only constant has been that I want to help people. I plan to go on and get a degree in business marketing and then follow that by getting my MBA. I have not yet selected a college, but I plan to write articles in the future on how I do my college research and also how I figured out my career path.

My end goal is to start a non-profit. It’s always been a dream of mine and is a goal I’m excited to pursue. I hope to write articles in the future to inspire others to help people and as I strive to reach my dreams I hope you can reach yours too. No dream is too big.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article! I sincerely appreciate you taking time out of your day to get to know me and I hope some of the topics I wrote about interest you. I plan to write about all of them in the future! Please stay tuned for Monday’s article all about Elena!
